In many cases this PS3 disc problem is caused by a laser problem. This is due to the fact that your laser reads what type of media the disc is before it commands the drive to spin. So if the laser is bad, the disc will not spin.

Turning the console off and on again-Turn off your console (it will show the red light) then flip the switch at the Back of the console; if it is a slim after you turn it off, unplug it. Turn it on after that to see if it worked.
